The Boy in the Dragon Hat
A split second’s observation embedded this portrait in my mind.
The Chinese Cricket
I had been given this Chinese carved cricket a long time ago. I started the still life without it, and felt something was missing. I wanted something green to balance the colors, so I pulled the cricket off the shelf and felt it gave the balanced effect I desired.
This painting is really about the vibration between green and red. The older model bell buoy, aesthetically much more pleasing then its contemporary replacement, was on dry land outside a ship’s chandler. Maine provided the fog.
